Hi there, i am trying to uninstall serialosc because i am having some issues with it at the moment, namely trying to figure out a good way to switch between MIDI protocol and OSC protocol, like you could with Monomeserial. Anyways, i tried to run the script in terminal that tehn posted, but when i look at activity monitor after restarting my computer, serialosc is still running, so i don't think it is working. Here's what comes up in terminal after i run the script:
" Last login: Tue Oct 25 17:58:16 on console
Oh-Hi:~ musicmanasman$ rm /usr/local/bin/serialosc
override rwxr-xr-x root/wheel for /usr/local/bin/serialosc? "
Is that correct? i'm a bit confused. Any help would be most welcome. Thanks everyone.
Cheers,
Nate -
if you download the serialosc package, it should include some uninstaller scripts that will remove the confusion for you. Or... you can just click 'y'. But I first would make sure to see if other files were installed.
-
i did indeed download the installer package from http://docs.monome.org/doku.php?id=app:serialosc but the only thing in it was the installer, no scripts or anything :( after looking around on the forums it seems the scripts are missing from the current installer.
-
hrm, verrry interesting. I completely missed out on the serialosc 1.0 train. I'm running 0.8. The uninstaller script only removes two files, the binary that you were about to delete by clicking yes, and the LaunchAgent plst located in:
/Library/LaunchAgents/org.monome.serialosc.plist
Note that's the 0.8 uninstaller script
*shrugs* -
got it!! just copy and paste the script:
sudo rm /usr/local/bin/serialosc
into a terminal window, (which will ask you for your administrator passord), hit enter, and then restart your computer. It should be then be uninstalled! -
where do you copy and paste the script?
-
open up terminal, and copy and paste it in there
-
where exactly is terminal?
-
HD/applications/utilities on OS X
-
damn i got win7 64 bit
-
@aPre
Click start and type services.msc
Find the serialosc service and stop it. It should uninstall from the Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall section in windows without a problem. -
as a heads up to os x users:
launchctl stop org.monome.serialosc
launchctl start org.monome.serialosc
will start/stop serialosc. helpful in certain cases. -
@shimoda and @Raja thanks for the help i appreciate it! im starting a new discussion cuz im having trouble getting my monome to connect...so if u could read that that would be awesome! it will be done in a couple minutes!
thanks! -

I'm looking forward to the day of stable serial OSC, stable ftdi driver and PAGES 3!!
- instability issues often do my head in! - still getting kernel panics!
- the time it takes to set-up my set-up arghhh!
- Oh for the day of Monome plug n play. - it will be poetry in motion.
wishing for a nice pages setup to switch between apps on Monome and ARC!.
ie plug in devices, make selection of apps and make some noise!
(how the google summer of code thing going?) -
the only weak link is the ftdi driver at this point. serialosc is stable.
"plug and play" is subjective but i think we're close-- all discrepancies have to do with the lack of a solid "standard" for how apps should steal focus from serialosc. i mean-- at this point you don't have to manually enter prefixes into monomeserial, for example, if the patch was written with this convenience in mind. do you have specific use cases that you see as really unworkable?
google denied us this year. -
@tehn,
google denied us this year? not sure what that refers to, but you've piqued my curiosity. -
@Tehn "do you have specific use cases that you see as really unworkable?"
- no, not unworkable,...just frustrating at times,....
I mostly have problems when I run a fairly complicate/busy setup: using ARC 4, 128 and 64 with pages driving the 128 and 64 for example with say MLR and pages-faders on the 128, some more faders and XOR on the 64, and the ARC running CCOSC. - Sometimes all good and stable, other times connections drop out!? -If I try to un-plug and re-plug any of the Monome devices to 're-connect'- I usually get a kernel panic! - even when nothing is 'playing' (so I guess that's a FTDI issue?)
- When this happens I usually end up putting on one of your tracks, and think to my self - minimise my work flow. And will then start over with just one device and one app - start simple, work on individual instruments/ tracks. Save, and come back to work on the next instrument / track.
I'm enjoying the learning process with Monome, but sometimes just I want to play music! and problem solve the music, not the connections of hardware and software.
So the frustrating times are frustrating,...but the creative times are gold! -
tried to do uninstall of serialosc and I get this:
Last login: Mon Oct 14 13:16:39 on console
NIGELs-iMac:~ fluxsta$ sudo rm /usr/local/bin/serialosc
Password:
Sorry, try again.
Password:
rm: /usr/local/bin/serialosc: No such file or directory
NIGELs-iMac:~ fluxsta$
it shows up three times in activity monitor still?????
trying to do total uninstall of EVERYTHING as my set up is totally pissed all the time now due to so much tinkering -
I have the same problem as the above post. 3 instances of serialoscd in terminal and then whe I type in "sudo rm /usr/local/bin/serialosc" I get:
rm: /usr/local/bin/serialosc: No such file or directory
Does anyone have a solution to this? I want to uninstall and reinstall. I can get serialosc to see my monome. I have it up and running on my older mac, not love on this one:/
-
EDIT:
I CANT get serialosc to recognize my monome. I have it up and running on my older mac, no love on this one:/ -
Yep I found the 'd' on the end solved it. The serialosc for my arc kept showing up and for some reason in the drop down. Been sorted for a while now which is good, so to OP out the d on the end of the cmd and you should be good

@ fluxsta @karaokaze
YAY! adding the "d" is all it needed haha. I feel dumb for not thinking of that. :( Thanks guys, you are awesome.
