Big thanks to Altitude Sickness, and HOW? for setting this up, as well as GTZ for all his help!!!

  • Its gonna be sweet!

  • so stoked. we'll have a presentation from lucky dragons before their set, so you can finally figure out what's going on here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFwi1zF5RoQ

also, come watch me play with a broken nose!

    http://interface-la.com

  • That last sentence threw me. I guess I was imagining a carelessly discarded nose that you'd picked up somewhere and maybe installed an accellerometer into. But, no. That's not really how noses work.

    You okay? What happened?

  • You may think you know how to make a baby, but you don't.
    Let Lucky Dragons show you.

  • I mitht have overboard posting about this on FB today.

...but, maybe if a bunch of you do the same, I won't stick out.

  • smacktop 0.3 demo....

  • Nice!

I should probably add here that there were some last minute complications and I won't be allowed to record the show. I can't guarantee there will be any video at all for those who don't make it.

So for anyone reading, if there's even the smallest possibility that you can be there in person, make all efforts to be there in person. Don't live with regret, man. It's not worth it.

  • BUMP: show is tonight. drop by! we are hoping for a very special guest appearance from FREELANCE WRITER. -r0

  • Man. That guy's got name recognition around here!

  • I'm sorry I'm going to miss it guys! It just wasn't in the cards.

    Have a great show though!!

  • There's a pretty good crowd outside. I don't know if we'll fill up the room, but it's an impressive showing out here on the sidewalk!

    Surprisingly good male/female ratio, too.

Also, the dubious taco stand just down the street is not messing around. Hard core salsa. I would like to purchase beer now.

  • Huh. First act, and the room's already pretty full.

I'm declaring early: tonight was a success.

  • Also? Ro is mind-blowing.

  • The guy next to me asked for Ray's name three or four times so he'd be sure to remember. Complimented him on his balance of rhythmic and ambient sounds, and on his lack of B-Boy posturing. Probably a lot of new Altitude Sickness fans tonight after that performance, if that random sampling is any indication.

  • Mike Gao! So good.

Oicho's visuals are particularly strong this set, integrating a lot of live footage, and his ongoing onscreen dialog with the audience.

Must remember to check out Mike's iPhone App, "Vocal Beater". And now I've got a handy reminder on the forums.

  • My iPhone is dying, and Merbert Moover's is killing it.

  • Just caught myself wondering how Dave makes all those white dots on his body flow to match what's going on on the screen behind him. Am officially to drunk to operate heavy machinery now. But, damn if MM isn't operating the hell out of that heavy machinery. Yes. I stop now.

  • Those dragons should be so lucky. Or that baby should. Baby dragons. Luck. Coherent thoughts out the window.

  • Abstract music in both rooms. Can't cope. This is how you end a concert, though. Damn.

  • Aaron's decent into madness brought to you by a Interface LA.

Now to hang out at McDonalds or Subway or something that's open. Nobody wake me.

  • So sad that I missed this. Sounds like it was an awesome show.

  • Thanks for the play-by-play GTZ!

Man...I can't believe how many people came out last night! So much fun. Now to start planning for our MONOMEET.

    w00t!

  • crazy good show and an amazing turn out! thanks everyone for making this happen. more to come.

Some visual documentation of the night. Let's do this again soon, say January? Until then, see you on the 10th [for renegade lights record release part 2 in SF,
    then monomeet on the 12th]

(Edit: corrected statement to make date accurate)

  • 12th. of dec. monomeet.

  • any videos from friday??

  • At the risk of repeating myself:

"I should probably add here that there were some last minute complications and I won't be allowed to record the show. I can't guarantee there will be any video at all for those who don't make it.

So for anyone reading, if there's even the smallest possibility that you can be there in person, make all efforts to be there in person. Don't live with regret, man. It's not worth it."

If anyone took video, they were very sneaky about it. I did not. And I didn't see anyone else doing so either.

  • The venue's policy on video made it essentially not possible for us to tape the event. :(

  • It's possible they'll be more lenient next time, now that the group's earned a little trust.

But, yeah. This should in no way be taken as a slam against them, and I vote for there being a next time at this venue.

  • Where is the monomeet expected to happen? I just moved to LA from Boston, and I have been looking for this type of electronic music community. I'm excited for the next Interface LA as well!

  • @theatticbat:

    Welcome to LA!

Here's all the community stuff I can think of right now:

Be sure to check out "Low End Theory", if you're into such things. (I've never been, but that's every Wednesday and I guess a bunch of us are regulars)

    Also, watch for events here:
    http://machineproject.com/

    and here:
    http://blog.crashspace.org/

    and here:
    http://www.dorkbot.org/dorkbotsocal/

    and here:
    http://www.mindshare.la/

(basically, get on everyone's mailing list)

Anyway, the monomeet will be at the Downtown Independent theatre. Which is also a great place to keep tabs on. They are frequently awesome.

Some details and stuff om the monomeet can be found in this thread:

  • @GreaterThanZero

    Thanks for all the links!

I've been going to Low End Theory since I arrived in LA. Actually, that is one of the reasons I am here, because I am a PhD student in the UCLA Department of Musicology and my primary research focus right now is the LA Beat Scene (Low End Theory as the ethnographic focal point). As a scholar of electronic music performance in general, it will be great to see you and others at future shows, and perhaps interview you at some point!

  • @gtz Yeah, definitely not slamming them. Most of their rules are in place with the audience experience in mind. Very focused on a professional show. With the gallery space in back, it's really the ideal spot for what we're trying to do. Plus they feature excellent beers!
