What music blogs/mags to you read or subscribe to?

  • Tryin to keep up with what's out there. It's maddening.

Help an ignorant Poser out, link me to what you read bout music.
(just to be clear, i'm aware of spotify and radio.fm, as well as facebook/soundcloud groups as a means of staying in touch etc... but looking specifically for periodical style publications/blogs online to read interviews and descriptions about artists and reviews of latest releases)

(edit: whoops! ha, capslock... i'm so ignorant of etiquette :p)

  • well, if you'll excuse the dump of my admittedly poorly curated rss 'media' folder, you may find these interesting to a greater or lesser extent...

  • Damn lokey, thanks for this. I don't know if this counts but

    http://www.reddit.com/r/futurebeats

  • wow, that is a lot of feeds.

Here's where I find new music:

This one is my favorite, and they tend toward electronic somewhat:
    http://disconaivete.com/rss

I don't always like the music they put up on this one, but if you see it here, it most likely is or will soon be popular (with the indie hipsters, at least):
    http://gorillavsbear.blogspot.com/atom.xml

This one is kinda all over the place, and usually features really obscure stuff (hence the name), which is really interesting sometimes:
    http://obscuresound.com/?feed=rss2

  • i usually just go straight to record label sites and check for announcements

outside of that method + trawling FB twitter or soundcloud...

    dublab
    textura
    adhoc

if you get thru those three sites without finding something new/beautiful
i dunno what to tell ya

edit: Buy the magazine. Kill some trees. Get the CDs.

  • wow thanks guys. As much as i love CDM and synthtopia, I been wondering what else was out there myself. Especially for sound design since that's my current focus of energy along with ear training (again).

But back to the attention that Raja so rightfully deserves (i know how humble he is so i like saying things to make him squirm and feel uneasy).

    URB magazine.
I don't know if they still exist. I don't know how relevant they are now, and I don't know how relevant they were back when I thought it was the shit. But that periodical was my gateway into electronic music, and I don't mean technically or engineering-wise, but music listening of various electronic styles, interviews, and beautiful photography of urban settings and people. Some good CDs too. As a poser myself, I lived through them magazines in my 20's. After skimming thru some the other week when i was decluttering, some seemed silly and bloggy in a sense. Other depending on who was being interviewed or talked about i couldn't throw away.
