"beat juggling"
http://monome.org/docs/app:quantum
originally designed for varibrightness 256 and push button arc2, this serial.osc, max/msp patch can be used with any model grid and without an arc as well.
quantum turns juggling patterns (called siteswaps) into melodies by mapping throw heights to note values. please see link above for full description.
quick start guide:
- open "Juggling Lab.jar"
- open "Quantum.maxpat"
- double click "p monome" button on quantum patch and connect grid/arc
- push buttons on the grid to change patterns
manually enter siteswaps by clicking in the white box below the speed control and above the grey bar, type in the siteswap, and then click anywhere outside the box to start the animation.

thanks for the feedback! glad you are enjoying it. i forgot to say that if you don't have an arc you can also see the list of siteswaps under each button press in the main window of the patch... then you can copy and paste them from the list one at a time in the little box at the top of the patch to see what they look/sound like.
