any apps that function the same as mlr, but give more groups to play with?

Have you tried the 6 group version? There are a few 6 group edits around, search in the forum.
Or try out Steve Duda's Molar - there are a bunch of tutorials on how to play it like mlr. -
or use 7uplive, if you have live 7..
