travel suggestions (flight case? pelican case? bag?)

  • Hi all,

I was wondering how people transports their monome (more specifically 64s).
Has anybody started making monome-specific bags? Or does anyone know of a model of flight case or pelican case that conveniently fits a 64?

    Thanks in advance,

    Adam

no sure about a 64 size case, but worth reading through the above topics.

  • For those in the UK, maplin are doing a good deal (untill the 22/2/2012), 3 metal flight cases for £24.99. The normal price for the medium size case is £24.99.

    Dimensions (W x H x D in mm) External Internal
    Small case: 325 x 205 x 85 311 x 191 x 74
    Medium case: 375 x 255 x 115 360 x 240 x 100
    Large case: 460 x 330 x 160 440 x 310 x 144

The large case will fit my 17.3" laptop and my 128.

  • wow, good tip marto.

  • I wasn't sure if it was worth mentioning, but I picked up a set today. Note that they don't come with foam you can cut to fit your laptop/monome, that's something I'll have to buy and cut seperatly. An alternative would be to investigate this solution:

  • The smallest case fits my 128 with room to spare. The large case should fit a 256 as well as a laptop and other bits and bobs.

  • sigh, still looking for something with a removable lid like a turntable flightcase...

  • If you like the Pelican type case solution, keep an eye on the eBay (US) Porta-Brace store (http://myworld.ebay.com/porta-brace).

I've picked up a few of their "factory soiled" cases for around $30 each, including delivery... So far the worst that's been wrong is that the PortaBrace sticker was scratched on one of them, the others have been no more than dusty from sitting on a shelf (and immaculate inside).

They all came with their cubed foam interiors that you just trim with a craft knife, or even scissors, to fit your gear... I have my MS stereo mic kit safely boxed in one, a field recorder and accessories in another, and a field mixer in another. The cases are water tight and crush proof, like Pelican cases.

Delivery was quick too, but I'm only a few hundred miles away from them so it may not be so speedy for folks further afield.

  • I just got one of these for my walnut64 + arc2 setup and it fits like a glove. Cheap too.
