Any use Encoder and IR?

    I'm building a 128 monome. I like to include an encoder and IR distance sensor on each 40h kit. So at the end I have 2 encoders and 2 IR sensors.
    My dillemma is should I do it?

    How is software support for these controls?
    Is there any software out there which could be used in combination?

    I am able to write software preferably in C#. And I think I will manage to change the Atmel chip code if needed. So at the end it will cost some (considerable) time to develop something.

    I like to hear your opinions. Is it worth to proceed... or not?
