powered usb 2.0 hub recommendations

  • hi all. i'm looking for a really good powered usb 2.0 hub for my setup. i am running off a macbook pro 15" and a powerbook g4 17" and i only have 1 usb port available on both because each need a direct port for the audio card (the macbook pro is connected to rane sl1 for serato scratch in/out and the powerbook g4 is connected to m-audio connectiv, both to the same mixer).

i have 2 monomes (128 and 64) that i want to connect to the pbg4 and 2 korg micro controllers to the macbook pro. thing is, i also have usb 2.0 external hard drives, so i want the fastest hub i can buy for the money.

any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks!

  • Hi, I would recommend an industrial-grade hub like this:

I'm getting a similar one in a few days, I'll let you know how it performs.

A little cheaper alternative would be the 7-port D-Link mentioned elsewhere here on the forum. I had a terrible experience with a cheap plastic hub, I'm going for what seems to be the safest solution...

I'm not sure about the transfer rates, but if you want to have fast rates for the external HDs the hub could be a bottleneck no matter how expensive. If it were only for controllers then I think this shouldn't be an issue.

  • i have three of these and love them http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817394056 mine are darker i think they are older but have had zero problems with them.

  • I bought one of these. They are awesome!

  • thanks for the recommendations guys!

i've been searching for a long time... why do all usb hubs have to look like cheap plastic toys? i don't get it.
