i have a sneaking suspicion all is not right with my gs64 tilt sensor. is there some documentaiton of what kind of activity is 'normal' under monome_test? i'm getting values like
/monome/tilt 0 125 134 0
the second two numbers change, but the first and fourth never do. also only activity in the first two boxes under /tilt. -
this is normal for a greyscale 64.
the first number '0' is a reference to the first sensor (there's only one tilt sensor, so 0 is correct).
the second two numbers are scaled to approximately 8bits (0-255) so the default settings you show are close to the middle of that range.
the final number 0 is a 3rd axis. 3 axis accelerometers were only added in the 2012 edition of grids, though you probably won't miss it (the 3rd access only really detects "is it falling off a table?" or "did i throw it in the air?").
so in all, it sounds to me that it's working fine! -
"but i don't see the same range of values"
i have a gs64, too. i've never been able to get the range 0-255(no matter how i calibrate(not that i know how to calibrate at hardware level :p), it's always something more like 90-150 :p.... and, unlike midi devices, once you turn tilt on, even while resting, the tilt-osc will still send some kind of jitter(then again, my apt. might be slightly slanted, haha) depending on your patch, that many osc messages can also end up choking other osc messages...remember to turn tilt off when you don't need it).
my 2012 256, however, has much better response(i still prefer the tilt on a midifighter3d :D.... but the 2012 tilt is more useable).
anyways, just range it in yer software(regardless of lo-resolution, can still do alot). -
do the current shipping vb 128 models have tilt capability? or is that a special install kinda thing?
-
no tilt on currently shipping units.
