Hella Oontz a grid controller from Adafruit

  • Hello all!

Since a long time I fantasize about Monome / Arduinome.
    I recently bought this : https://learn.adafruit.com/oontz-trellis-midi-instrument/overview

A sort of Arduinome, but is not.
It's made with trellis pcb driver (https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-trellis-diy-open-source-led-keypad) and a leonardo board.

I made it (the 128) and now it's time to program. If I use the sketch they propose, the hella oontz will talk midi (so impossible to communicate with monome app without programmation).

My question is, which are the solutions to use monome applications with this "Hella Oontz"?
A midi > osc router? A midi to serial? or rewrite a sketch? (I'm totally newbie with Arduino) It is possible to use an Arduinome 128 sketch here?

Thank you for your responses, don't hesitate to share documentations here, I think I will need it!

  • sorry.

  • it will be quite hacky, but if you can configure your thingie to correspond to the launchpad midi implmentation, you might be able to use this? http://monome.org/community/discussion/6245/nonome-monome-emulator-for-novation-launchpad-1.24a-7up_v2/p1

i have no clue though. it's going to be tricky to set up, and probably will cause a large amount of ball ache.

  • You can try modifying this arduino sketch it would be a good starting point.
it emulates the old 40h serial protocol the first ever. Will not work with SerialOSC

  • wow very interesting, thank you very much. I have not a 64 pad, but a 128. I'll search to add 64 pad to the sketch. If you know how can I do it you can say! hehe thank you for your responses.

  • I would start testing the sketch to make sure that it works with one half of your 128 OONTZ setup. After that I would Experiment & get familiar with the Adafruit OONTZ/TRELLIS Arduino Libraries I'm sure it should be simple to adapt this sketch for a HELLA OONTZ

  • okay, I'm not in my house for now, but I'll check this, Thank you for the response!
    And see you soon!
