I know this wouldn't effect monome stuff, but just curious what people thought about this on a hardware/IP level.
Seems a pretty fucked way to go about doing business, particularly since the consumer may or may not know they have a counterfeit chip. Will be interesting to see how this plays out, particularly since it's getting picked up by tons of tech blogs. -
I just heard about this on a pinball forum. Seems ridiculous that someone who purchased something they thought was real would get screwed like this. Perhaps FTDI could put this kind of effort into fixing the crash issues associated with their drivers on MAC?

we source from digikey and mouser, who buy direct from ftdi.
also, the ftdi driver is built in on mac and linux. -
Looks like they backed down (probably with all the blogs lighting up with it). Seedy behavior nonetheless!
