karl is being super humble about this
@tedjamesbutler 's tape (as headdress) is excellent
but if you havent checked it out yet https://phinery.bandcamp.com/album/relative-position-of-figures is by @analogue01 -
Liked Karl's music too! -
thanks :)
-
Ted just posted a selection of the entire Phinery catalog over on his tape podcast: http://www.norelcomori.com/podcast/episode10
-
trippy
somehow i never get into podcasts so i had heard of NM but had no clue ted is curating it -
Ha. Had no idea I'd find my name in this thread. Thanks, guys.
By the way, @analogue01, as you eluded to earlier I /did/ look into Phinery because of your tape. If you have a copy of mine, you might notice a certain "KF" gets a 'thank you' in the liner notes. -
Is in "fin"ery or "fine"ery?

he really let the sounds breath
edit: all of these are heavyhitters...track after stellar track! -
wow, such nice design for all those releases
-
@gli I had to check my phone to see who was playing when your track came on while I was driving last night. Super into it.
-
This is so good. Still working through it. SO much to hear.
-
@tedjames thank you
your tune is the perfect opener for the comp -
Thanks, @gli.
Hey, did anyone in the states get a physical copy of this yet? Still waiting on mine to arrive. -
nah
but i just ordered mine a week ago
on a slight tangent...
your edit of tilpasset is perfect ted! -
Just ordered the first of these - I love this kind of thing. If the second had been on CD-R (and not sold out!) I would have ordered that as well. Great work.
-
well, that sold out fast
-
@gli THANK YOU.
@analogue01 It did.
I've got a spare to give away on Norelco Mori real soon, though. (http://norelcomori.com) -
why do i read this thread only now? so much to explore!
the "head dress - partialism" track is amazing.
would love to learn more about production details of the tracks for those of you involved. -
My copy of #1 just arrived yesterday. Greg Gorlen's first track stands out for me.
-
@myecholalia It was a while ago that I recorded that piece so I'm not sure I remember the details, but the beginning is my Make Noise modular being modulated by the one of aleph's CV scenes from Tutorial 7. I forget which. The guitar in section 2 is a recording of me playing into @analogue01's Sixteen Delay scene for aleph. Parts of that recording get a different treatment as the next section of modular synthesizer comes in. The final bit is a duet of modular plucks and overly compressed noise from a cassette into the Make Noise Phonogene.
-
thanks, @tedjames! gives me an idea about what's going on. more motivation to explore my modular system.
-
just had a listen to this, awesome stuff guys
-
@tedjames gotta listen again with those notes in mind :) thanks for sharing
@bkinsman + @strettara appreciate your support, thanks for taking time to listen!
@myecholalia both my tracks are built around aleph...
for "Isfahan" i used one of duncan's scenes in toolkit01 for the intro (i think STASIS)processing synth stuff i'd saved on my sampler. The rest of the track is more aleph and sp for the rhythm loops (GRIPPER) with additional layers of tetrax and shnth intertwined.
"Badabe Surt" was a performance on a very simple feedback patch: nord micro, aleph running gripper, akai hexacomp. It was recorded to minidisc and cropped w/ a daw later. -
thanks for sharing, @gli! always interesting to read little bits about the process of creating.
-
@gli Awesome to know all this. Going to relisten. Man, I loved Minidisc.
-
i never payed attn to MD during its heyday...seemed like a novelty at the time
now that it's obsolete, i fell in love w/ the format while looking for a small, simple, reliable way to record [and bounce things between my tapedecks]
its amazing
been using it like a digital audio notebook to capture raw ideas and revisit them later -
@gli That's great. Do you have the Gescom album, Minidisc? That was what sold me. Great album.
-
nah
i will check it out
they are as durable and easy to use as cassettes, but the clarity even surpasses the three-headed decks i've tried messing with
and it's cheaper :)
